Believers believe in the Almighty God, have accepted Christ as Lord, Savior and are filled with His Holy Spirit. For many years, we’ve heard numerous individuals highlight the flaws of Believers in Christ Jesus. The collective flaws are the sins that have led those individuals to say that something is wrong with the Church. If there’s something wrong with the Church then is there also something wrong with the Body of Christ? While that seems like a crazy question it’s actually a question that’s hard for many to comprehend. Keep in mind, Christ is perfect!
First, let’s look at Believers in Christ. Are we perfect? We know the answer to that question. It’s answered in Romans 3:23 and 1 John 1:8.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
How did we get this way? Since we were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27), should we be perfect? Yes. Humans were created to be perfect but Genesis, Job, and Revelations show us how we became imperfect. The key verses are Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3:22, Genesis 6:1-7, Job 1:6-7, and Revelation 12:7-12.
Satan and a third of the angels were cast out of heaven to Earth (Revelation 12:7-12) before the creation of man. Then some time afterwards God created and gave man dominion over the Earth (Genesis 1:26). Those actions by God were similar to someone saying, “I declare war”. Well at least that was how it seems Satan received it. Remember, Satan was already on Earth and most likely content on being on Earth but when he knew God gave man dominion over every living thing that moves on the Earth that offended Satan deeply. He became enraged toward God’s creations and obviously he has been waging war against us since that moment in time. This is why he tricked Adam and Eve into disobeying God. It was all because of his hate towards us that initiated the steps of our change from perfection to imperfection.
In Genesis 3:22 God said:
“Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”.
That verse signified the first change in man. Of special note is “the man has become like one of Us”! This one verse has been grossly overlooked and misinterpreted but it is critical to the changing of perfection into imperfection within us. Then there was another change in us. The sons of God came into the daughters of man (Genesis 6:2).
“That the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.”
This is one of the most debated verses in the Bible because of “translations”. I believe that if the translators would have utilized fallen angels, the Watchers, or rebellious men then this would’ve been an easier verse for most to receive. This is why I have to provide three possible commentaries and all three possibilities effect our perfection to imperfection.
Sons of God are the fallen angels - This is the other change in our DNA. That change caused humans to start having diseases and illnesses. Man will use their theories and other reasoning’s to suggest otherwise but the proof and truth is located in the Bible. Most important is the fact of translations causing confusion and not God. The translation should have read the fallen angels came into the daughters of man. This would have cleared up many questions and confusion. Let’s not lose sight of proper translation because Sons of God has many meanings because of translations. The fallen angels breeding with humans completed our change from perfection to imperfection thus the flood was supposed to wipe away the mixed (wicked and righteous) humans.
Sons of God are the Watchers – The Watchers are a myth to most because they are not highlighted in the Bible that we use. They are however present in other gospels of the biblical era that were not allowed in the Bible. They are said to be holy ones that were supposed to watch over the early humans. They are said to have rebelled against God when they decided to marry and breed with the daughters of man. Their breeding with the daughters of man is said to anger God thus the flood was supposed to wipe away the mixed (rebellious and righteous) humans.
Sons of God are rebellious men – They are said to be of the bloodline of Cain which is believed to wicked thus separated from the righteous bloodline of Seth thus the flood was supposed to wipe away the mixed (wicked and righteous) humans. Their breeding with the righteous is said to anger God.
Either commentary utilized highlights the fact of the unrighteous mixed with the righteous thus angering God. This event also influenced our change perfection to imperfection.
Those are the reasons that started our imperfection.

Next, Believers being imperfect seem to provide particular individuals with ammunition to talk more about our imperfection but it is also a testimony of God’s grace, mercy, and love. God, knowing our imperfections still allows us to wake up day after day to work on our imperfections. This is also another reason why He sent His Son to help us. He is helping us perfect our spiritual bodies which unlike our flesh will return to the Him. Our spiritual bodies have a place in the Body of Christ.
In 1 Corinthians 6:15-17, the Apostle Paul highlighted this to the church in Corinth. He understood that the Body of Christ is spiritual and not flesh. Of note is that he is talking about our spiritual bodies not fleshly bodies since we know Christ is not flesh. The last verse helps to explain the connection to “one spirit”.
“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”
It can also seem somewhat confusing because of what the Word says in 1 Corinthians 12:12 and in Luke 22:20.
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”
“And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
In 1 Corinthians 12:12, the Apostle Paul is using an analogy of the body to teach unity of gifts from the Holy Spirit. Those gifts themselves are perfect because they come from perfection and remain connected to Christ whom is perfection. When we possess those gifts we are hosting gifts of Christ thus we are said to be in Christ. Then in Luke 22:20, Christ is using the bread as an analogy to teach us to remember His sacrifice in our hearts, minds and efforts thus we “do” in remembrance of Him. In both verses, the body is an analogy to teach us our spiritual relationship with Christ.
Even still, it is not easy for many to understand the meaning of the Body of Christ. The Church is composed of Believers’ fleshly bodies that host our spiritual bodies and hopefully Ecclesiastes 12:7 help to explain this.
“And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.”
See Genesis 2:7 for more understanding.
Believer’s spirits are within the Spirit as the flesh is not in the Spirit.
Lastly, there is something wrong with the Church but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Body of Christ. The main reason why there’s nothing wrong with the Body of Christ because there’s absolutely nothing wrong with its Leader.
Colossians 1:18, “And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”
Matthew 5:48, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
John 10:30, “I and My Father are one.”
Christ Jesus is perfect and we are to seek His perfection to perfect our imperfections. Mostly outsiders and some insiders will say that there’s something wrong with Church but none of them can say there’s something wrong with the Body of Christ. Amen
